KPBS Highlights The San Diego Community College District "Green Gym" Project 
ASI recently completed the San Diego Community College District gym makeover at the college's downtown campus. The award-winning project was highlighted by KPBS for its use of energy efficient technology.
Winning the 2008 Design Visionary Award from the American Institute of Architects, the $11 million project involved major renovation of the two-story gym which was built in 1964.
"...we were able to take the precast panels, around the exterior of the building, which are very dark and very heavy, remove those and replace those with a very lightweight composite panel which allows light to transfer through," commented District Architect Lance Lareau. The project's use of Kalwall provides insulation and reduces the need for air conditioning. ASI supplied the Kalwall for the project, which was installed by Challenger Sheet Metal. Read more. |
